But they carry an embedded assumption that deserves scrutiny: that the purpose of a designed space is to minimize discomfort and maximize measurable satisfaction, and that the closer a space comes to achieving this, the better it is.
This assumption mistakes optimization for excellence. It conflates the absence of friction with the presence of meaning.
